Amy’s Point of View: Her Daughter’s I’m Back Story

As a parent, it can be hard to gauge when you need to take your child in to see a specialist for an injury. Especially when your child is a competitor. You don’t want to take them out of the game if they’re not ready. So, when Scout was ready to find out what was wrong with her hip, and she found out she had torn her labrum, Scout’s mother, Amy, was determined to find the right doctor to help Scout get back to playing rugby.

After having pain in her hip for a few years, Scout finally decided her junior year of high school that she needed to get it checked out. Scout was playing in a basketball tournament over Christmas break when she went to her family and broke down. Amy, Scout’s mother, knew that was the moment Scout was ready to get her hip checked out.

“There was something wrong with the hip,” explained Amy. “There was discussion of a torn labrum and at that point we didn’t know what to do”.

After getting an MRI of Scout’s hip, Amy asked a retired orthopedic surgeon what she should do and he told her, “you need to go to someone that does a lot of these”. With that advice, Amy followed her coworkers recommendation to take the MRI to DR. Enright at OSMS.

“It was such a blessing because I looked up OSMS – Dr. Enright – and he’s you know… he’s the guy. And I knew that they weren’t doing a lot of them in our area, in our hometown in Central Wisconsin,” Amy expressed.

After visiting Dr. Enright, the MRI indeed, confirmed a torn labrum and Dr. Enright explained that Scout would need to have surgery. Scout needed to have a hip arthroscopy to make her hip right.

“If you are wondering where you need to go, um it is very well worth the drive, the travel, for the outcome that you’ll receive. I don’t know what kind of outcome she could have had if she went somewhere else,” Amy explained. “I want that for every parent who has a child that’s injured. And they might feel like ‘my child’s hurt, and they’ve had such a great High School career’… if you find the right doctor, your child is still going to have a great High School career! You just need to find the right doctor. And we’re so thankful we did”.

Scout did the work and pushed herself to get back to rugby. As a result, in her senior year of high school, Scout was all state in rugby, went first team all-conference, competed in two all-star games after she graduated, and scored a thousand points for basketball. In the fall of 2024, Scout started playing college rugby on scholarship.

Amy states that when it comes to the success of your child, “I don’t know, as a parent, if you can juggle or roll the dice without doing your homework”.

Thanks to OSMS, Scout is back!
