Ryan’s I’m Back Story: Torn Shoulder Labrum

When Ryan’s shoulder injury hindered him from being involved in his children’s everyday fun, he knew it was time to see an expert, so he turned to OSMS.

Ryan’s shoulder injury started slowly and progressively got worse as time went on. There wasn’t a specific incident that caused the injury, rather, the injury was from general wear and tear. When Ryan found his arm in an abnormal position, it would trigger a deep aching pain that would run through his arm.

Ryan mentioned that he wasn’t able to golf with his 9-year-old; his 5-year-old is learning to swim, and his 4-year-old is wrestling, so it hurt Ryan not being able to do those things with his children.

Ryan shared, “I started to lose confidence in everyday tasks. It was really wearing on me mentally as well as physically. And so, I knew that this time it was different. I’ve had injuries before, but this was something that was just very unique and something I’d never experienced before”.

Because of this, Ryan decided to reach out to Dr. Peter Eggert at OSMS, as Dr. Eggert was highly recommended to him.

“I was very excited to meet with Dr. Eggert for the first time and get some sort of clue as to what was going on,” Ryan stated. “He was very hands on and very focused. He understood my injuries, and he could really relate to where I was at.”

To Ryan, it was “fun” to be a part of his treatment process, understand what was going on, and get a diagnosis. It was determined that Ryan had a torn labrum.

Ryan described that, “Dr. Eggert and his team were flexible. They talked about my timeline as a dad and with my job that I could schedule the surgery when it made sense for me and my family.”

After surgery, Ryan was back to golfing, playing basketball with his kids, as well as coaching basketball.

“Sometimes, especially us dads like to tough things out. This was a situation that going through the surgery and getting back, feels so much better on the other end. And so I would highly recommend it”, explained Ryan. “If there is some sort of deep aching pain and some sort of tear that can’t be regenerated within and you need to have that surgery, it feels good to be to be on the other side and be back from it.”

Thanks to OSMS, Ryan is Back!
