Eric’s I’m Back Story
Eric developed his passion for gymnastics by just being in the gym. As a kid, Eric was in the gym for 13 hours a week.
During the first competition of his senior year in high school, Eric was injured. His first event was vault, and he landed short. That’s when he heard a snap. Eric looked down at his foot, and his ankle was hanging off his leg.
His coach ran over and made sure that he stayed on the ground. That is when Eric started thinking “Okay, alright, this is happening. This injury is big, so I might be, probably, will be done with gymnastics.”
So many questions ran through Eric’s mind. “Will I be able to do gymnastics again? Will I be able to walk? Will I be able to compete?”
Eric had already received a college scholarship for gymnastics at that point, so the first thing in his head was “Will I be able to get back to gymnastics?” He hoped to return to gymnastics, finish out his senior season at nationals, and then continue competing at a collegiate level.
The injury Eric faced was a Maisonneuve injury which means the fibula was completely broken and his foot was dislocated from the ankle. Although the injury was severe, Eric’s doctor at OSMS told him that it would be around maybe a three-to-four-month recovery from there.
Eric states that “Every single surgery I had there (OSMS), was quick to get into the office and then the recovery time was exactly what they stated. If they said I was going to be out for three months because of a broken hand a couple years back, it was going to be 3 months or sooner. So, they had all my trust in the world.”
“The most important thing as an athlete is getting back to what you want to do as quickly and as fast as you possibly can. And they (OSMS) do exactly that. They care for you. They understand what it’s like to be an athlete and they understand how long it is to be out. So, if you want the care that you’re going to need to get on your feet quickly, you should probably go to OSMS.”
Eric back to doing what he loves. He is back to gymnastics.
Eric ended up recovering in time to make his state meet, where he competed all the way to nationals. At nationals, Eric ended his senior year taking 8th on the parallel bars in his age group.
“Thanks to OSMS, I’m Back.”
