OSMS adds Robotic-Assisted Surgery for Hip and Knee Replacements
We are excited to announce that as of March 2024, Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists (OSMS) offers robotic-assisted surgery at the Orthopedic Surgery Center of Green Bay and the Orthopedic Surgery Center of the Fox Valley. The addition of this robotic-assisted technology for select knee replacement surgeries and navigation assisted surgery for select hip replacement surgeries adds to the extensive suite of surgical services aimed at catering to the diverse needs and preferences of patients of OSMS.
Robotic-assisted navigation during surgery allows for a robotic arm to guide the surgeon in prepping the knee for the implant. Navigation assistance captures real-time images and information to assist the surgeon with accurate implant placement.
VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solutions is technology that helps surgeons perform select joint replacement surgeries with the use of data tailored to each patient’s anatomy. This technology helps surgeons by:
- Using an infrared camera and optical trackers to help surgeons gather the necessary data about each patient’s anatomy to achieve an elevated level of precision.
- Aiding surgeons by using state-of-the-art technology to provide insights for real-time decision-making.
- Helping surgeons remove damaged bone with accuracy. This robotic-assisted device does not move on its own.
“There are many layers to a successful surgery, which is why our doctors collaborate closely with patients to tailor their experiences with comprehensive pre-surgical planning and post-operative care, as well as the best surgical technique for their procedure,” explained Dr. Douglas Miller, Orthopedic Hip & Knee Replacement Specialist and Physician Owner at OSMS. “Adding the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solutions technology will give our patients one more option when it comes to knee replacement surgery or navigation-assisted hip replacement surgery at OSMS.”
Robotic technology serves as a tool that can enhance and complement the expertise of OSMS’ highly skilled knee replacement and hip replacement surgeons by providing greater accuracy in specific procedural steps. However, it is the talented surgical team at OSMS that is committed to providing comprehensive and state-of-the-art treatment options that make the biggest impact on patients and provide the best possible outcomes for them.
OSMS, recognized as one of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2024 by Newsweek, has a postoperative infection rate of 0.15%, which is significantly lower than the national ASC average of 0.85% and the hospital average of 2.5%.
