Sammie’s I’m Back Story
Sammie developed her love for basketball in second grade through the YMCA and her parents. Both of Sammie’s parents played college basketball and inspired her to play through her collegiate career.
Sammie first injured her knee during practice. She hit against a playing pad and heard a pop in her knee. That’s when she knew that something was wrong, and her knee wasn’t right. Sammie ended up going to a school trainer first, where they did ACL tests. The tests came back negative, saying it was not torn. After Sammie kept rehabbing for four weeks, and things were not improving, she sought out a doctor at OSMS to get an MRI. Sammie found out a few days later that her ACL and meniscus were torn.
Sammie was disappointed, as her dream is to play college basketball, and the basketball season was coming up. She was heartbroken knowing that she wasn’t going to be able to play for the season. From this experience, Sammie learned to appreciate the game more. She says “When you lose it you don’t really realize how much you will miss it. It is your life and what you’ve been striving for. It just impacted me more after my surgery and my injury.”
Sammie had surgery at the on-site Surgery Center at OSMS. She was nervous at first, especially for the IV, but both of her nurses helped her get through that process smoothly.
Sammie highly recommends OSMS because “Everything that they did for me was great and they made me really comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. I am back to playing college basketball, working out, wake surfing, and water skiing. Thanks to OSMS, I’m Back.”
Despite her injury, Sammie was able to make it back for her last high school basketball season, where she then received a scholarship to play college basketball.
