Live Interview: The OSMS Procedure Room & Anterior Hip Replacement

OSMS orthopedic surgeon and physician owner Dr. Walker Flannery joined Dr. Larry Loewen, chiropractor and host of the Dr. Larry Radio Show, recently to talk about two topics: the OSMS procedure room and the anterior hip replacement surgery.

OSMS Procedure Room

The OSMS Procedure Room is a faster and less expensive way to have procedures like carpal tunnel release and trigger finger release performed. These procedures are done in a clinical setting versus a surgery center or hospital setting. The patient is given local anesthesia and the procedure is performed. Benefits of having procedures in a procedure room include:

  • No effective of being put under for anesthesia.
  • Many of our patients can drive home after the procedure is completed.
  • Because it’s done in a clinical setting, there is no cost to the patient for anesthesia or a facility fee like you would have in a surgery center or hospital. The only bill you receive is the surgeon fee which typically results in big cost savings.

Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery

There are three different approaches to hip replacements surgery: the lateral hip replacement, the posterior hip replacement, and the anterior hip replacement. All three approaches will give you great results and have their advantages. Dr. Flannery is one of the OSMS orthopedic surgeons who specialize in the anterior hip replacement surgery.

Unlike lateral and posterior hip replacement approaches, the anterior hip replacement approach uses an incision in the front of the hip while the patient is lying on their back. Research suggests that patients may experience less pain with the anterior approach. In addition, the anterior approach is believed to provide better precision by placing the implants in real-time. Better placement can minimize the chances of the artificial joint wearing out over time, dislocation, or discomfort due to differences in lengths.
